Hexapod Robot

12/28/2007
As I was surfing the web I came across this page. I was so amazed on how fluid the robot can move and how well the body can move. I decided it would be a great platform for my first robot using the Gumstix computer.

Up until now everything I have done has been fairly inexpensive, however this robot requires at least 18 servos, a cost of more than $200. If you would like to see this happen, I would greatly appreciate it if you donated. To the left there is an image that you may use. Thank you very much to anyone who donates.

I am going to design my own hexapod. I got a link to a company who sells high density plastics from The Society of Robots. The company is McMaster. I am going to order three square feet of 1/8" plastic to cut the parts of the hexapod out of.

The hexapod will be equipped with pressure sensors on all six legs as well as Sharp IR range finders. The IR sensor will most likely be located at the front of the robot. This will allow it to scan where is it going and get a fair idea of what way to go.

I will post more when I have the plans. I am still working out the construction of the robot.

This is one of Micro Magic System's robots.
